lpThe man known as “The Innovator”, The Originator” , and “The Architect of Rock & Roll”, Richard Wayne Penniman, better known as “Little Richard” has left us. He was 87.

Richard went into the studio with the producer Bumps Blackwell, and came out with Tutti Frutti. The single was a hit with black and white audiences and sold 500,000 copies. It reached Number 2 on the Billboard R&B charts in November 1955, and number 17 on the pop charts in February 1956.

Little Richard was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of its first group of inductees in 1986.

He was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation.
